Updated Numbers; Governor Announces Some Reopenings

Friday at 11:00 Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds updated the COVID-19 statistics for the state.

Iowa has 521 new cases for a total of 4,445 positive tests. 1,604 Iowans have recovered for a 35% recovery rate. Sadly 11 new deaths from coronavirus have been reported today for a total of 107 so far. 1 in every 98 Iowans have now been tested which is up from 1 in every 113 just a couple days ago.

The governor shared that because of the Test Iowa initiative the number of daily tests has dramatically increased.

The governor also announced that hospitals can begin to perform elective surgeries and procedures beginning Monday on a phased in approach. Farmers markets can now begin to reopen according to the governor’s proclamation. Governor Reynolds says more reopening steps will be announced on Monday.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says that they expect Iowa to hit its peak in the next two to three weeks. The University of Washington models expects an Iowa peak on May 4th with a reopen recommendation on June 26.

The area COVID-19 figures have been updated. Bremer County has one new case for a total of 35 with now 2 deaths. Black Hawk County has 530 cases and 7 deaths. Fayette County has 3 new cases for a total of 10. The rest of the area counties are unchanged.
