Waterloo Woman Arrested for Rent Scam

A Waterloo woman has been arrested for allegedly scamming a government COVID-19 rent assistance program out of $20,900, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 32 year old Chrishandia White has been charged with first degree fraud. She is accused of making up a name of a landlord in order to submit 11 applications to the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act. Authorities became suspicious about the applications when the pay stubs that were submitted with the applications were determined to be fake and the companies reported that they did not have employees with the names on the applications. The rental properties that were allegedly owned by the fake company, Christopher Mills Real Estate, turned out to be owned by another company. Investigators traced the Mediacom internet account used to apply for the program back to White, leading to her arrest.
