Wente Has Nursing License Reactivated

A nurse with several allegations of theft, drug and alcohol issues, and endangering patients has had her license reactivated by the Iowa Board of Nursing, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The license of Casey Wente was reactivated at the board’s August meeting. Wente first faced allegations back in 2005 when the board noted that she had pleaded guilty to or had be convicted of several theft and alcohol related offenses between 1989 and 2002. In 2003 and 2004 she failed to show up for work at a nursing home. She relinquished her license at that time, however, it was reinstated in 2011. In 2015 the board said Wente was incapable of practicing nursing with reasonable skill and safety due to a mental or physical condition. That came after Colorado authorities found Wente had four drunken driving convictions, suffered from severe alcohol use disorder, and had used marijuana. Wente then falsely claimed Iowa as her official state of residence and worked at a Colorado drug and alcohol detoxification center. Her license was again suspended in 2017 until its recent reinstatement. Wente will be required to attend support group meetings, submit to alcohol and drug screenings, and receive mental health counseling.
