Wednesday night in high school baseball Waverly-Shell Rock beat Charles City 13-4. The game was as close as 7-4 before the Go-Hawks scored 6 runs in the 6th to pad their lead. With the win Waverly-Shell Rock wins the season series with the Comets. Thursday night at 5:30 Waverly-Shell Rock will host New Hampton. The game will begin in the 3rd inning with New Hampton leading 2-0 because that was the score on June 10th when the game was suspended due to rain. In area baseball Wednesday night: North Fayette Valley edged Sumner-Fredericksburg 4-3, North Butler beat Osage 5-3, Nashua-Plainfield edged St. Ansgar 4-3, Linn-Mar swept Waterloo East 15-0 and 5-3, and GMG beat Janesville 11-8 in game one and game two was suspended in the 5th with Janesville leading 8-7.
The Waverly-Shell Rock softball team swept New Hampton Wednesday night 5-3 and 3-2. In the nightcap the Go-Hawks won with a walk-off suicide squeeze. With the wins the Go-Hawks clinch at least a share of the Northeast Iowa Conference title. Now, the Go-Hawks will attempt to be the first undefeated conference champion. Thursday night the Waverly-Shell Rock will play at Decorah in a doubleheader that begins at 6:00.
In area softball Wednesday night: Clarksville split with Don Bosco winning 16-5 and losing 18-4, Dubuque Senior swept Cedar Falls 13-0 and 9-1, Iowa City West swept Waterloo East 3-1 and 4-1, Jesup edged Waterloo Columbus 9-8 and Sumner-Frederickburg beat Lansing Kee 5-3.
